What is flan?
Flan is a baked custard dessert made from eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla, poured over a layer of caramelised sugar and cooked slowly in a water bath. The result is a delicate, silky custard sitting on a pool of golden caramel sauce that forms naturally as it bakes.
Although the name is used loosely around the world — a "flan" can also mean a fruit tart in parts of Europe — in Latin America and the Philippines "flan" almost always refers to this caramel-custard dessert. That's the flan Qué Rico makes.
